Taking Chances and Seizing Opportunities - A Career in Magazine Publishing

On Wednesday May 23rd, CEW(UK) were delighted to welcome Meribeth Parker as their guest mentor.

Meribeth, now Group Publishing Director for the Luxury Group at Hearst Magazines UK, changed her life dramatically when she moved to England 18 years ago. She spoke about the seizing of opportunities and the taking of chances that ultimately led to her success in the glamorous world of magazines. She also told guests at the event how she manages to juggle work and family life, and the choices she had to make to do so.

Originally from a small town in Canada, Meribeth worked for ten years in the tourism and hospitality industry before moving to the UK in 1995 where she spent five years as Publishing Director of WHERE London Magazine. She joined the National Magazine Company in 2001 and spent three years as Promotions Director for Harper’s & Queen, Esquire and Country Living Magazines. In 2004 she was promoted to the role of Publishing Director for the wedding titles, and since has published various print and digital properties across the portfolio. She is currently responsible for Elle, Elle Decoration and ‘New Projects’.
